- Mark states the second reason exceedingly well, but maybe rewording
- the first reason would help.
-
- It isn't that asking the frequent questions is bad per se, but
- the resulting flurry of responses to answers, even the correct
- ones, generally spreads more misinformation than not. Sorting out
- who and what is correct in the usual flurry is perhaps easy for
- advanced programmers or experts, but it must certainly cause
- confusion for beginners who are the ones that _need_ the
- information. If nothing else the beginner needs to read the FAQ
- just to help sort out the answers that do get posted!
-
- But the rude an crude answers are not required, and are counter
- productive. I wish that instead of saying "Read the FAQ.", the
- answers were:
-
- "Read the FAQ, which you can ftp from rtfm.mit.edu,
- as file /pub/usenet-by-group/news.answers/C-faq/faq.
- If you read it carefully and have more questions,
- please post those questions and relate them to the
- discussion in the FAQ if possible!"
-
- I believe that would improve the signal to noise ratio of the
- qroup almost as much as having the FAQ available!
